PPT slides is most wrongly used tool in public communication, speakers and trainer begin overly rely on PPT, without PTT slides, those professional even do not know how to face audiences and do not know how to communicate with audiences.
Business consulting industry, from proposal writing to seminar and reporting, relies heavily on PPT to communication, suggestion and proposing.
If not used appropriately, PTT could be disastrous and fully impact the communication process. Consulting seminars need client fully involve in whole proposing, discussing and brainstorming, because nature of seminars in consulting, PTT can be used only as auxiliary tool to guide the process, but not as tool of whole content manifestation. Indeed for the nature of PPT, it should not be used as tool of content report, and it should be only used as tool of communication. The propensity to use PPT as content manifestation makes consultant ill at easy to conduct public speech and consulting seminar. More worse, because of PPT content confine the team and let no room for creatively seminars and brainstorming. During consulting seminars and keynote speech, Power point slide usually distract audience’s attention if heavily texted and also disperse audiences when so many animations and graphics.
So it is my rule to use power point slides in public speech: keep it as simple as possible and makes it only as tool to explanation something such as workflow and graphics that cannot explain clearly without PPT and never use PPT in keynote speech. I compare the results of difference method: use heavily texted PPT audiences read over write PPT quickly and ignore presenter; without heavily content PPT, audience listen to and communication with presenter. But presentation without PPT need presenter do lots of preparation, as Chinese proverb says: stage for ten minutes, preparation and hard training- Gong Fu for ten years.
