Risk management in change management project

Change management is the most challenging assignment consultant feels reluctant to take because of natural of assignment is to overcome resistant of all participated and makes change happen as wished. During change process, people involved whose interests and benefits is jeopardized will resist and even undermine change process. Change management project, for its naturel of complexity and difficulty, special consideration should be given.

At beginning of change project, during bidding process, consulting firm should carefully evaluate the risk of assignment. From change scope, outcome of project, special methodology should be used, specialty of team member and client expectation to estimate risk arise from possibly project. For consulting firm, assignment beyond team member’s capability should be carefully evaluated and make sure that before bidding process all risk is acceptable. Current situation and politics complexity of client should be given special consideration at bidding process because that assignment fail mostly for complexity of internal politics and specially situation of client such as changeover of management team.
When change project launched, all stakeholders should be informed about purpose and benefit of change initiative, and special consideration should be given to management team and makes sure that they reach a consensus about issue. Discrepancy of attitude and cognition of leader about change process can makes change project at high risk of failure. Change always means something different and unusually will happen so the precaution measure should be let out before the urgent comes to being. Change measure and initiative will be effective only if people understand and accepted. Misunderstand makes chaos and put change project at edge of failure. Defining clearly communication strategy of change project and deliver clearly message to stakeholders makes change project more effective.
Change management project initiated by consultant always venture consulting firm and consultant, in order to avoid risk of failure and reputation, different precaution should be taken during different stage of process.
